Collection Requirements:

Call coag department 583-6797 to schedule.
Test done on first shift only, specimen must be received in department before 12:00pm.
Outpatients drawn only at POB.
Mix tubes thoroughly.
Must be a full draw to avoid dilution of the plasma.

Transport:

Original containers, on ice.
Must be delivered to Coag lab within 15 minutes.

Processing:

Centrifuge 15 minutes 3000 rpm; Filter and separate plasma, then fast frozen.
Red top, allow to clot, centrifuge and filter.
Deliver to coag fridge.
1.5 ml platelet poor plasma in (3.2% Sodium Citrate) (light blue top tube) refrigerate for Fletcher Factor.
3ml Platelet Poor Plasma (Freeze in 3 tubes) Blue top (3.2% Sodium Citrate).

Stability After
Processing:

Refrigerated (plasma): 4 hours
Refrigerated (serum): 15 days
Frozen plasma: 15 days

Minimum Testing
Volume:

2.0 mL plasma; 0.6 mL serum

Unacceptable Conditions:

Hemolyzed specimen, serum, short draw, clotted, specimen too old, specimen not separated and frozen within 30 minutes of collection.
